One Glee Character So Awful They Might Even Beat Mr. Schue
There’s nothing good about them, great singing voice aside.
If there is one show that would probably not be able to air a good half of its episodes today, it is Glee. A little more than 10 years after its initial release, the show that many teens thought was their holy grail has been found to be extremely inappropriate in many areas.
One of the most cursed characters from the show is of course William Schuester, a Spanish teacher who decides to take over the Glee Club and bring it back to its former glory. Although he was supposed to be a role model for the kids and an inspirational figure, the internet is now flooded with evidence that he is a bad teacher and at times downright creepy.
However, it turns out that there's a character who's arguably even worse than Mr. Schue himself. Among all the horrible things that would probably land him in jail in real life, he had his own nice moments and heartwarming speeches that didn't offend anyone or make anyone feel uncomfortable.
At the very least, he genuinely cared about the children he was responsible for. The same cannot be said for Shelby Corcoran. The only good thing about this character was Idina Menzel, who portrayed her.
From the abuse she put her own choir, Vocal Adrenaline, through when she was their coach, to seducing an underage girl, Shelby should top the list of Glee's worst villains. Throughout her run on the show, she seemed to care about no one but herself, taking an unhealthy interest in the teenagers' affairs.
In addition to being a terrible teacher, Shelby also proved to be a terrible mother. While one could argue that her being Rachel's biological mother would explain much of her personality, no vulnerable teenager in Rachel's position deserves to go through the loss of a newfound relative again.
Although the show gives her character a happy ending, living in New York with Beth and running a Broadway daycare, fans are not satisfied. Despite Shelby ending up on good terms with everyone, her storyline seems so extreme that many feel she should suffer more consequences for her actions.
If you want to refresh your memory and get reacquainted with Idina Menzel's Shelby Corcoran, you can stream Glee on Hulu or Disney Plus.
