One Detail That Makes Young Sheldon Season 2 Finale Sequence Even Better
This one is a real tearjerker.
When the show comes out with a spinoff, it means two things: it's already finished or nearing the end and the fanbase is not ready to let it go, and it's successful and has developed enough of a universe to do another story based on it. More often than not, spinoffs are not as interesting or as well-received as the original series, which results in their cancellation.
With The Big Bang Theory 's prequel Young Sheldon, however, things are a little different. Not only was a sitcom about Sheldon's childhood in the middle of Texas in the early '90s successful, but it was ultimately deemed by viewers to be better than the original.
Whether it is a newfound balance between comedy and drama, a good riddance to forced laugh tracks, or just the adorable child actors that are hard to resist and hard to not fall in love with, Young Sheldon is still extremely popular after 6 seasons of the show.
However, those viewers who joined The Big Bang Theory during its final years still appreciate all the references to the original show they can get. And the finale of season 2 has to be the most heartfelt and touching.
The episode A Swedish Science Thing And The Equation For Toast ends with Sheldon sitting in the garage, trying to hold back tears of loneliness. The voiceover of the adult Sheldon admits that at that moment he thinks he will be alone forever, and then the audience is presented with the sequence of child versions of characters who will become his best friends in the future.
While this scene has always been the obvious fan favorite, not many viewers have noticed that the characters appear in the order in which they appeared on The Big Bang Theory.
First we see Leonard, with whom the pilot of the show begins, next to Sheldon himself, then Penny, who moves in next door. Later, we meet Raj and Howard, and only three seasons later, in S3E5, Bernadette, and S3E22, Amy, who will grow up to become not only Sheldon's close friend, but also his life partner and the love of his life.
If you want to re-watch The Big Bang Theory to see how these kids' life journeys led them all together to Leonard and Sheldon's apartment, you can stream the sitcom on Netflix or MAX.
