Say whatever you want about Desperate Housewives, but it’s the show that you will definitely watch when suddenly coming across it on TV or if you don’t know what else to binge. And we are sure that the level of investment in the plot would be the same as when you watched it for the first time.
It’s just something about this show that makes you love it no matter how annoying the characters are from time to time and despite the fact that the show is full of insanely dark storylines.
At the center of the story there are four friends who live in the same neighborhood: Gabrielle, Bree, Lynette, and Susan. Their lives are full of everything, and we mean it when we say it.
They have been through murders, crazy scheming, revenge stories and of course many, many relationships dramas.
One of them was the story of Susan and her ex-husband Karl. When we meet Susan, we find out that he cheated on her with a "blond bimbo" and left the family. This broke Susan's heart and left her a single mother, although Karl was still involved in Julie's life.
Over the course of the show, we saw Karl do a lot of crazy things, and frankly, we mostly felt icky when the character appeared on screen. But one thing was undeniable: he was hot and oh so charismatic.
We saw several of his affairs, and even saw him heartbroken and left alone with his child (karma, eh?), but the only thing that made us look at him differently was when he and Bree, the moral compass of the gang, ended up in a passionate affair.
Needless to say, this was something that no one thought would ever happen, but the reality turned out to be so perfect that fans actually enjoyed the idea of these two opposite personalities ending up together.
What was good about their relationship was that it felt real and alive. We saw Karl trying to change his behavior for Bree, to be worthy of her, and we saw Bree loosening up a bit, and it was just perfect.
Unfortunately, their love didn't last forever, but the way Karl was written off was just devastating. The writers ended up killing the character in the tornado and that was his farewell.
And to top it off, they even did a "what if" episode to show that Karl would have cheated on Bree anyway, so it's better that he just... dies.
The fans of the story felt angry because they were sure that the couple had a lot of potential and that this unlikely relationship could have worked out for the better for both of them.
Well, if you also feel nostalgic, give Desperate Housewives another try and stream it on Hulu.
