One Deathly Hallows Scene Shows How Useless Harry and Ron Were Compared to Hermione

In a well-balanced friend group, everyone has their own responsibilities, and the Golden Trio was the perfect example of that. Harry Potter was leading the charge and generating suicidal ideas; Ron Weasley’s domain was the Wizarding World lore and emotional support; and Hermione Granger was in charge of everything else, but primarily making sure that her two special friends wouldn’t die randomly.

Hermione Always Took Preparations Seriously

In the Golden Trio, the serious stuff was seemingly Harry’s domain. He was, after all, The Boy Who Lived, and it was he who battled Lord Voldemort over and over again. It would only make sense if Harry was in charge of the serious business, then; but in reality, he was mostly responsible for worrying about the big things and overthinking.

In most adventures and misadventures the trio went through, it was Hermione who took the time to research, plan, and prepare for the task ahead. From the challenges in The Sorcerer’s Stone when Harry and Ron would have blissfully died in the Devil's Snare if it wasn’t for her Botany knowledge to The Deathly Hallows where the Horcrux Hunt wouldn’t have even started if Hermione didn’t save the boys, it all her.

Only Hermione Took the Horcrux Hunt Seriously

After Albus Dumbledore’s death, Harry knew he had to find and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes. He took it very seriously: he broke up with the girl he loved, and… And that was it, generally speaking. Harry dumped Ginny and was mentally preparing to cut off Ron and Hermione too, since his “woe is me” attitude demanded a solo quest.

But Harry was not preparing for the Horcrux Hunt, oh no. Even Ron did more than him. And, of course, Hermione did all the heavy-lifting, as always.

When the Trio discussed their preparations at the beginning of The Deathly Hallows, Harry said that he, quote, “cleaned his room.” Ron proudly declared that he’d taught the ghoul in the attic to snore just like him. That was the boys’ input to the quest.

But Hermione…

Hermione stole important books from Dumbledore’s office; secured her parents; learned how to send a Patronus-messenger; enchanted her bag to fit anything they could possibly need alongside the items themselves; made contingency plans for every possible crisis; and prepared escape routes. That was Hermione’s input.

If it wasn’t for Hermione Granger, the Horcrux Hunt would have ended at Bill and Fleur’s wedding before even starting. The only reason the Golden Trio survived and got to the point where Harry could defeat Lord Voldemort was the fact that at least one of the three participants actually took their upcoming quest seriously.
