That one definitely wasn't on anyone's Queen Charlotte bingo card.

It's not easy to watch a new show without any expectations. This is especially true for a show that not only focuses on the life of a major historical figure but is also a prequel to another very well-known and beloved series of its own.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, however, not only managed to exceed all the expectations fans already had but also brought something completely unexpected to the table.

Historical accuracy out of the question, fans were absolutely mesmerized by the way Queen Charlotte was able to portray the relationship between the Queen herself and her husband, King George.

The story was so beautiful and heartbreaking that some felt this couple was the best in the entire Bridgerton franchise.

Although these two were the focus of the series, the writers still found time to explore several other characters and their stories.

Lady Danbury, the tragic story that shaped her character, is the one that captured the viewers' attention the most. Being raised to be a lord's wife at the tender age of 3 was terrible, and the audience quickly developed a lot of sympathy for her.

However, her character became much more controversial when Lord Ledger came into the picture and they started developing romantic feelings for each other.

Historically, it wouldn't be so scandalous for two upper-class people to have an affair.

However, for Bridgerton viewers, who were used to the idea of one true love, Lady Danbury's pursuit of a married man was an outrageous act.

This storyline divided the fandom into two opposing camps, with one half supporting Agatha's struggles to find herself after the marriage she had suffered, and the other half feeling hurt on behalf of Lord Ledger's wife.

After all, if the writers wanted Lady Danbury to explore her options, they could have done it with anyone but Violet's father.

Whether or not that was the right decision from the writers' room, you can judge for yourself. All episodes of Queen Charlotte are available to stream on Netflix.
