Once Upon a Time’s Jennifer Morrison Left Show Before It Ended, Here’s Why
Without Emma Swan, Once Upon a Time was never what it used to be.
There is a town in Maine where everyone lives like prisoners between two worlds. The people of this town want to live normal lives, go to work and raise their children. But an ominous force keeps appearing that makes them jump through portals to other worlds, ignoring logic and common sense.
In 2018, the final seventh season of Once Upon a Time was released. This ABC show began as a story about fairy tale characters doomed to live in our world with no memory of who they really are – and it started out promisingly.
The writers showed us what would happen to famous characters in real life.
Snow White became a schoolteacher, Little Red Riding Hood was a provocatively dressed waitress, Cinderella worked in a laundry, Rumplestiltskin owned a pawnshop, and the mayor of the town was the Evil Queen. It was she who put a curse on the fairy tale characters and brought them to the town where time stood still.
However, the last season was missing one important character – Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison. The actress' departure came as a big surprise to fans of the series, as Emma was the main protagonist of the show and few people could imagine how Once Upon a Time could continue without her.
Morrison said her job was not all red carpet and parties, but also hard work: working 16-18 hours a day, constant flights, which numbered about 100 a year, lack of free time for family and friends. This work was very exhausting, so she decided to take a break for a while and prioritize what was more important to her – work or personal life:
“I spent 6 years on Once Upon a Time, […] but it’s a grueling schedule. […] I’m just at an age and a time in my life where I want to be home, I want to be with my family and my friends.”
Jennifer's departure was too much of a blow for the series, and as a result, season 7 of Once Upon a Time was the show's last.
