OG Chronicles of Narnia Star Breaks Silence on Netflix’s Franchise Reboot
It’s time to say goodbye to our childhood.
Summary:
- The Chronicles of Narnia is a film series from the late 2000s, based on the series of children's novels by C.S. Lewis.
- The films were extremely popular, but now the story is being revived by Greta Gerwig in a partnership with Netflix.
- William Moseley, the actor who portrayed Peter Pevensie in the original films, admits that the chances of a comeback are slim to none.
No matter how many years have passed, some of our favorite childhood movies will remain iconic forever. And even though Greta Gerwig is gearing up to make her own revamped version of The Chronicles of Narnia, those who grew up with the story will forever crave a nostalgic pinch of the 2000s film franchise.
If you're looking forward to some callbacks to the first adaptation from Netflix's version, don't get your hopes up. There is no reason for the streamer to look back.
Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia Cast
Depending on the audience Netflix is targeting with its new Chronicles of Narnia movie series, the nostalgic element may play a big role. But that doesn't mean viewers will get the cool returns they're hoping for. At the very least, William Moseley has no faith in reprising his role as Peter Pevensie, or any other character for that matter.
Speaking to Bleeding Cool, the actor admitted that he doesn't think he'll be invited to appear in the new production. No matter how much people love the original movies, it's time to move on, and in Greta Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia 20 years later, there may be no place for him.
“I don’t think I’ll be called into Netflix’s Narnia because they are rebranding and rebooting it. I’m not part of that world anymore, which sometimes makes me sad because I love the world of Narnia and becoming a part of it. It’s like if you were in Star Wars, and you got to see what the Stormtroopers were like. All the amazing things worked, and it’s fun,” Moseley explained.
However, there is one wish that the actor still holds close to his heart, and hopefully it will come true if Greta Gerwig and Netflix will allow it. William Moseley, along with his on-screen siblings, hopes to be the first to sneak a peek at the updated Chronicles of Narnia set and see what the fantasy universe will look like this time around.
However, all of this is still a long way from coming to life. The 2000s film series is the only Narnia we will have access to for at least another year or so. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2024, but knowing how much post-production work such films require, the premiere date could be as late as 2026.
If you want to revisit the fairy tale land of your childhood, you can stream The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy, including The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on Disney Plus.
