Let's face it – the Oscars are not the same in 2024 as they were in, say, 2014. The award has become too commercialized, with producers obviously having a lot of power when it comes to choosing the nominees and their films.
There's simply no room for surprises at the Oscars, as the nominations are well predetermined months before the Academy actually announces the films and performances that will be considered for the golden statuettes. Still, the Oscars have always been a pretty selective club.

The iconic names listed above certainly speak for themselves, so the fact that the award supposedly created to praise excellence in filmmaking managed to ignore such immensely talented directors does raise some eyebrows.
It's impossible to understand how such incredibly influential directors have not managed to get themselves Oscar nominations, especially considering the fact that they have created films worthy of such an honor, some of which have even managed to achieve decent box office results.
It's tiresome to see the same names nominated for Oscars year after year, as it feels like Academy members are congratulating each other instead of stepping out of their comfort zone and giving some weight to directors who are clearly more deserving than the likes of Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorcese, both of whom are already drowning in golden statuettes.
The Academy Awards are scheduled for Sunday, March 10, taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The event is to start at 7 p.m. EST.
