No Hate on Better Call Saul, But Its Most Essential Part Is Also Its Most Unrealistic
When fans get too picky, they start noticing unrealistic things in Better Call Saul.
We all know how this gripping prequel to Breaking Bad has kept us on the edge of our seats with its awesome characters and intense storylines.
Better Call Saul is a show that, among other things, is praised for its realism and attention to detail, but let's face it, even the best shows have their moments of "No way this can be real."
A Reddit discussion started a big debate about the most unrealistic thing in Better Call Saul, at least according to some fans, — the Cartel.
To begin with, fans contend that the primary focus of the cartel appears to be on Albuquerque, while Breaking Bad suggests that Fring's network distributes throughout the entire Southwest region.
However, it's perplexing that a prominent member of the Salamanca family, with strong ties to the Cartel, is consistently present in Albuquerque. First Tuco, Hector, and eventually Lalo.
The question arises as to why the nephew of a Cartel leader, and a Don himself, would be involved in overseeing the distributors and handling the financial transactions.
Moreover, unless the Cartel is a Kingsman- type super secret organization, the DEA would possess records for all individuals associated with it.
Therefore, it would be risky for any Salamanca to reside north of the border, and Jorge de Guzman should have been promptly identified as Eduardo Salamanca.
And finally, the way Don Eladio gets the money directly from distribution seems unrealistic as there should be a more complex system of money laundering.
However, other fans didn't hesitate to try to rationalize the Cartel in BCS. It seems to them that Albuquerque doesn't really hold great significance for the cartel, and neither Hector is a highly influential leader.
Rather, he is an aging enforcer who established a modest smuggling venture within an ice cream shop.
The significance of Hector and his operation supposedly lies primarily in the fact that the members of his deranged family are likely engaged in more substantial operations elsewhere.
And they would fiercely retaliate against the Cartel if they perceived any disrespect towards Don Hector.
Either way, only real Cartel members would tell whether the show is accurate or not. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a member of the Cartel to be interviewed, so we'd just like to recommend that you go ahead and enjoy the show as is.
