No Great TV Here: One Jensen Ackles' Supernatural Prediction That Didn't Age Well
Supernatural, being the longest-running Sci-Fi series in entire North America, has gathered millions of fans over the years it was being aired.
Its cast is largely adored by the audience, and it especially goes for the main characters' actors. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who played the Winchester brothers, are fans' all-time favorites.
Considering their popularity, it's no wonder they were constantly wanted for interviews; and considering the show's popularity, it's no wonder they were constantly being asked about the events in the series and how they thought the show would end.
During one of the interviews, Jensen gave one funny statement… And it didn't age well, let's say.
In Jensen and Jared's interview for Entertainment Weekly back in 2017, one of the issues on the table were the major characters' deaths.
Regarding the death of Dean and Sam's father figure, Bobby, and how he felt about it, Jared Padalecki quoted the reaction of Mark Pedowitz, the CW president:
"As a fan, I hated when Bobby died, but it was great television."
Jared claimed that he agreed with the president, and Jensen couldn't help but quip his partner:
"Like when Sam Winchester dies for good, it's going to be good television. But when Dean Winchester lives on, it's going to be great television."
His joke was, of course, a wild guess about how the show could end, but he somewhat reflected what the majority of fans thought, too.
Most speculated that in the end, one of the Winchester brothers was going to die, and Sam was the obvious choice. As we know, that's not how the show ended in reality.
At the end of Supernatural, it was exactly vice versa: Dean Winchester died, and Sam remained alive.
Considering how Jensen seemed almost sure that his character was going to survive, it's very much ironic: no great television for him, apparently.
But after the Supernatural's finale, Jensen Ackles started producing a new series, The Winchesters, where he also narrates the story of Dean and Sam's parents.
In light of how Dean actively influences his parents' lives in the new show, it almost appears that he wants to change the future — maybe, even save himself from dying.
It would be really funny if in the end, Jensen manages to pull off the ending he assumed in the 2017 interview, wouldn't it?
