No-Costner Yellowstone: Will It Be a Disaster Or Is There Hope?
Can a show continue to thrive without its main character? Yellowstone is about to find out.
If there is going to be Yellowstone 's season 6, Kevin Costner, who portrays John Dutton, might no longer be a part of it due to the scheduling conflicts.
Frankly, this may deal a huge blow to the series. The show will definitely not be the same without him, as he held up a significant portion of the series as the family patriarch.
However, over five seasons, Yellowstone has managed to build a lot of other characters' storylines that managed to keep everyone interested while being separated from Costner's character line.
So yes, he is valuable to the show, but it can still exist without him. After all, the show would finally have the opportunity to focus more on some other important characters.
There are Kayce and Monica, Beth and Rip, and Lloyd, who are popular characters in their own right. Without Dutton, they would get more screen time and their storylines would definitely get spicier and more dynamic.
" I like Costner, at least as an actor, not sure what he's like as a person, and may not have initially watched Yellowstone if it weren't for him. However, I've fallen in love with Rip, Lloyd, Teeter, and even Walker, and don't love the character writing/plot for Costner anymore," Reddit user strawberrybf12 said.
On the other hand, those characters who were not as popular before can finally get new interesting stories and more of the spotlight. For instance, Angela Blue-Thunder and Sarah Atwood.
The plot of the story can also benefit from Costner's absence, as there could be some twists in the stories that could even change the whole plot after the fact.
So even without Costner, Yellowstone has other interesting and fan-favorite characters that deserve to be explored.
So the loss of the Dutton Ranch owner is definitely not the reason to end the show – unless, of course, the creators haven't already decided that it's time to call it quits and focus on Matthew McConaughey-led franchise extension.
