Someone is getting ready to don the legendary count's cape.

With the release of a trailer for Universal Pictures' upcoming horror comedy Renfield, audiences got a chance to see a familiar face.

Based on an original idea by Robert Kirkman (best known as the co-creator of the comic book series The Walking Dead and Invincible ) featuring characters from Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897), the film focuses on the titular Renfield (Nicholas Hoult).

He is a lackey of the famous Count Dracula, who struggles to maintain his loyalty to his master after falling in love with Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina), a traffic cop in modern-day New Orleans.

This iteration of Dracula is portrayed by none other than Nicolas Cage, an Oscar-winning Hollywood veteran who is currently experiencing a career resurgence after nearly a decade on the sidelines.

He produced and starred in the 2021 drama Pig, receiving critical acclaim for his performance, and further solidified his success by portraying a fictionalized version of himself in the 2022 action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Back in the spotlight, Nick is so passionate about his upcoming debut that he is open to playing his undead character in his own movie. Being a huge fan of Nosferatu himself, he has always felt a deep connection to Dracula.

In an interview to Total Film Magazine, the actor said:

"You know, there are some minor moments here where you get to see some of the pathos in Dracula's eyes… and that made me think that maybe one day I might like to try for a whole movie where you're really understanding the psyche of the character".

Curiously, this is not the first time Cage has appeared in a vampire-themed movie.

He previously starred in the 1988 American black comedy horror film Vampire's Kiss, where he portrayed Peter Loew, a literary agent who begins to believe he is turning into a vampire after a fateful trip to the nightclub.

Renfield will premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on March 30 and is scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on April 14.
