Newest Young Sheldon Season 7 Update Just Spoiled Paige's Return
Hopefully it's not just for a few minutes!
Summary
- Paige Swanson has proven to be one of Young Sheldon 's most intriguing recurring characters, but she only made her last appearance in the middle of Season 6.
- However, a recent update has revealed that she will likely return for the final season.
- This is an important decision, as the arc of a character so important to Sheldon's story deserves a satisfying conclusion.
Launched as a prequel spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon almost immediately became a new flagship show for CBS, attracting new viewers in the process. Although the show focused primarily on Sheldon's early years, it quickly evolved into a self-contained story about the Cooper family as a whole, along with their close friends.
That's why Young Sheldon is so precious for its ensemble cast. However, the information that the upcoming seventh and final season, which will be released in less than a month, will be shortened, did not help at all. Yes, there's no doubt that the finale will provide satisfying arc endings for Sheldon, Missy, Georgie and their parents. But will there be enough airtime for the other characters?
One of the most memorable original YS characters was Paige Swanson, played by McKenna Grace. She was dramatic and multifaceted, especially in the last season. But we haven't seen her on the show in quite some time, so fans, knowing the number of episodes to come, were worried if the writers would bring her back at all. Luckily, it looks like they will, as new photos from the set suggest.
New Photo Hints at Paige's Return
This was revealed on the personal Instagram account of Raegan Revord, who played Sheldon's twin sister Missy. On January 5, the girl posted a new batch of casual photos from her personal life related to her birthday on January 3, as well as some notable photos from the set. One of them shows Revord in the company of Grace.
Of course, no context was given for this pic, so there is a chance, however small, that we won't see Paige at all in Season 7. However, considering that half of the photos were taken on the set, there's every reason to believe that McKenna Grace was in them, which is an incredibly encouraging fact.
Why Does Paige Need a Proper Ending?
Introduced in the second season, Paige Swanson quickly became memorable to viewers, and not just because she was unbearably annoying to Sheldon. Also a child prodigy, Paige Swanson opened the title character's eyes to the fact that he was not the most brilliant person on the planet and that he should be less arrogant toward others. From that moment on, one of the most fascinating and dramatic arcs of the series began.
In essence, Paige is a mirror image of Sheldon: both are prodigies, both are predisposed to the exact and natural sciences, both have not the easiest relationships with parents and other people. However, Paige is better socialized and, unlike Shelly, is not a stranger to the typical teenage activities. Perhaps this is the main difference, as she seeks an escape from loneliness in other people: while Sheldon is constantly supported in all his endeavors and given the attention of George and Mary, Paige grew up under the inflated expectations of her parents, who later paid less attention to her worthwhile accomplishments due to the divorce process.
As a result, Paige became less interested in the Academy, fell into bad habits, and even tried to run away with Missy in Season 6. So let's hope the stark contrast between Paige and Sheldon's fates turns out for the better — even if her future isn't in science, let's hope she's able to find her place in the world. What matters is that the writers have enough time to accomplish that.
Young Sheldon Season 7 will premiere on Thursday, February 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
