Newest Virgin River Update Solves One of Season 5 Biggest Mysteries
The upcoming special will answer a question that fans have been wondering about.
Summary
- Virgin River Season 5, Part 2 comes out tomorrow with two holiday episodes.
- Ever since the Part 1 finale, fans have been on edge, waiting for answers to many questions.
- The first 9 minutes of the upcoming episode, released by Netflix, gave us an answer to one of them.
In less than a month, the most wonderful holiday of the year, Christmas, will be upon us! And as it approaches, Netflix is ready to shower us with tons of holiday cheer. Tomorrow, December 30, one of the streaming service's and television's most popular cozy dramas, Virgin River, will release its Season 5 holiday special.
To call the final episodes of Season 5, Part 1 cozy is certainly misleading, as the town was literally engulfed in terror and mayhem caused by wildfires that destroyed almost all of the local homes, as well as the showdown with the drug cartel led by Melissa.
In addition, the first half of the season left us with more than a few unanswered questions. How quickly will the town rebuild? Will Jack and Mel be able to move on after losing their child? What is the fate of Preacher? Who is Mel's biological father, a native of Virgin River? And finally, one of the biggest questions on the minds of fans, especially those of the Robyn Carr novels — is Lizzie really pregnant? Luckily, Netflix has the answer to that very question ahead of the Christmas episodes!
The First Nine Minutes of the Upcoming Specials
On Monday, November 27, Netflix released the promotional first nine minutes of the upcoming Christmas special on its Tudum platform. In the released clip we can see three parallel storylines unfolding.
First, Jack and Mel, first searching for the right Christmas tree (or rather, it is the tree that has to choose the future owners), and then welcoming home Mel's sister Joey (Jenny Cooper) and her family.
Second are Jack's sister Brie (Zibby Allen) and her boyfriend Mike (Marco Grazzini), as well as Brie and Jack's visiting father (Tom Butler).
Third are Denny (Kai Bradbury) and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale). And of course, we're most interested to see these two, because despite the news from Season 5 Part 1, they're still together, and what's more, an important question has finally been answered!
Is Lizzie Actually Pregnant?
Fans familiar with the novel series know that in the books, Connie's niece gets pregnant in her early high school years. In the show, that aspect has been changed a bit, but the story remains much the same, and Lizzie and Denny are indeed expecting a child, with Hope and Doc (yes, he's back!) cheering them on. However, Lizzie's mom has also arrived in town, only she doesn't know the news yet!
Hope convinces Lizzie not to delay the conversation as it could have much more serious consequences, to which Lizzie agrees and decides to tell her mother after the big Christmas play.
'If you live in Virgin River, everybody's got your back,' Annette O'Toole told Tudum. 'That's what's so wonderful about it. She will always have childcare — about 18 people I know of could take over — and a doctor on call in her home.'
Other Questions Seem to Have Been Addressed as Well
Last but not least, fans were concerned about the future of another incredibly popular character, Tim Matheson's Doc. A hint that he wouldn't be appearing in the new episodes appeared in the Season 5, Part 1 finale when Vernon had to leave Virgin River to get the medical treatment he needed due to his worsening macular degeneration. However, he is back in town!
Virgin River Part 2 will be released on Netflix tomorrow, November 30. The episodes 'The More the Merrier' and 'Father Christmas' will have the same running time as the regular episodes, which means they will be about 45-50 minutes long. Merry Christmas, dear Virgin River fans!
