Newest Outlander Season 7 Update Fuels Fans' Worst Concerns
Fans have been worried about how dark S7 of Outlander might get – and comments from the cast have added fuel to the fire.
Summary
- Season 7 of Outlander has finished its first half on some cliffhangers.
- Actress Caitriona Balfe has hinted that some scenes were very difficult to film.
- Fans are worried about what this might imply for their beloved characters.
What's Happened So Far?
We're in another Droughtlander, as the Starz show is taking a short midseason break. The first half of S7 left us with a number of cliffhangers.
Most pressing, of course, is the fact that Bree and Roger's son Jemmy has been kidnapped by Rob Cameron, presumably to take the boy back in time. Having read Roger's book, Cameron knows that Jemmy can lead him to the gold hidden near Fraser's Ridge. Roger and Buck decide to follow Cameron back through time, leaving Bree and Mandy behind…
Meanwhile, after a lot of drama (classic Outlander!) including Jamie nearly dying on a battlefield (classic Jamie!), our favorite couple has boarded a ship and are on their way back to Scotland. Hooray! Although this journey will take them away from the war and back to Lallybroch, it will also bring them back to some old enemies.
What's Coming Next?
The second half of season 7 is coming some time soon, though a release date has yet to be confirmed. Fans are worried that things are about to take a rough turn – and many are crossing their fingers that we don't have to witness anything too horrible.
Outlander has certainly not hesitated from breaking fans' hearts in the past… or from putting their characters through intense turmoil. Claire's gang rape in S5 felt unnecessary to many, and left a bad taste in people's mouths.
But comments from the cast have suggested that there might be more difficulties to come.
Hints From the Cast
Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) has recently suggested that there might be some struggles ahead for our beloved Sassenach. Back in June, she told an interviewer at the ATX TV Festival:
'I'm going to be a bit vague because it's stuff I can't really, really talk about but I think it's episode 11. There's a scene, there's a sequence of scenes that were really, really challenging. I think my [low point] was trying to figure out how we were going to do it and it was really tough…there was a big struggle about how we were going to do it.'
Given the scenes of emotional, physical, and mental anguish that the cast has already had to film over the years, fans are already dreading what could be coming our way. What could possibly be worse than all that?
What Do We Know?
Although we don't know what horrors made episode 11 so difficult to film, we do have some details about the upcoming storylines. For instance, we know that our regular favorites are set to return, and that we'll get to see Jamie's sister Jenny once again. However, she'll be played by newcomer Kristin Atherton, as the previous actress Laura Donnelly is not set to return.
Although we don't know why Laura Donnelly has chosen not to come back, the actress did make it clear after season 3 that it was time for her to move on to new projects.
Close to the End
To get a hint at what's ahead in Season 7, you could always read ahead. This upcoming portion will be based on Diana Gabaldon's seventh and eighth Outlander books, An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart's Blood.
You might want to start now though – the two books have a combined page count of 2,352. That's a lot of reading.
