Newest Chicago Fire Update Is Bad News For Sylvie Brett Fans
They couldn’t leave us with only good news about the show, could they?
Summary:
- The upcoming season of the series will be the last for Kara Killmer.
- It is still unclear how many episodes she will appear in the new chapter.
- Chicago Fire season 12 is scheduled to be released in January 2024.
Recently, the news about the One Chicago universe created buzz in the fandom, but the sentiment was largely happy. First, Chicago Fire fans learned that the new season of the anticipated show is just around the corner, as it was already established that the production has started, and the release was scheduled for 2024.
Then, the return of Taylor Kinney's Kelly Severide to the series was announced. What’s not to love? But then came the bad news…
Apparently Kara Killmer, who portrays Sylvie Brett, is ending things with Chicago Fire in the upcoming season, according to TV Line.
However, the sources don't make it clear why exactly the actress decided to leave the show, or whether the producers forced her to do so. It's also unclear if she will be a big part of the upcoming season, or is just coming to say goodbye and leave right away.
Is Sylvie Brett's Departure Really So Unexpected?
Killmer joined Chicago Fire almost ten years ago in season 3, and since then, she has taken part in 193 episodes, making her character one of the most important ones on the show.
One of Sylvie Brett's main storylines in recent seasons has been her relationship with Matt Casey. They were close friends in season 7, but after a while it was clear where their relationship was headed. Finally, in season 9, they became a real couple, and it seemed like nothing would stop them from being happy together.
But of course that wasn't the deal, because Casey's actor Jesse Spencer decided to exit the series during season 10. The storyline was that he moved to Portland, and Brett stayed in Chicago. Thus they ended up in an unhealthy long-distance relationship with all the drawbacks that came with it.
However, Spencer still made some guest appearances to maintain the failing relationship, but it was so desperate that fans began to wonder what would happen to Sylvie Brett and why the writers were making the character suffer so much and not giving her at least one good story.
“The writers from the beginning have made her storylines revolve around men. She’s been unlucky in love with every guy: Harrison then Cruz, Antonio on and off, the chaplain, Grainger and then Casey was great but that turned into a long distance situation. How the most hopeless romantic on the show is not married is beyond me,” Redditor taymay31 said.
Well, to make Brett feel better (sort of), at the end of chapter 11, the writers decided that Casey should propose to his ex-girlfriend. Season 12 will show if there's still a chance for them to live happily ever after.
Maybe Sylvie will decide to move to Portland to be with Casey. That would actually be a perfect swan song scenario for her character.
Chicago Fire will return to our screens in January 2024.
