Huge two-year gaps between seasons? What could possibly go wrong?

If you hoped for some new Bridgerton content this December, then the show appears to have a devastating update for you.

Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh has recently teased more Regent-era romance and deeper Danbury arcs, but with a twist: they're going to arrive next year, so it looks like season 3 in 2023 was nothing short of a fan dream after all.

"Season three will be coming out next year. That’s been in the can for a while. And with each season, the show gets slightly more fabulous. It gets more complex," Andoh said optimistically in an interview with Digital Spy.

However, not every Bridgerton fan seems to share the sentiment.

According to the fandom, such a delay (given the fact that we don't know when exactly in 2024 the new season will be released) can lead Bridgerton straight into the trap that ruined Sex Education for many people.

"Seeing what happened to Sex Education S4, I fear the quality will tank for Bridgerton future seasons as well. Plus the uncertainty of being able to keep OG actors that further down the road," Redditor CalcuttaGirl noted.

Sex Education had a 20-month-long gap between the second and third season, but it was just enough for many viewers to lose interest. It's impossible to keep every single detail (which may be important for the future story) from previous seasons for this much time, and Bridgerton may fall victim to that.

For many fans, it's quite mind-blowing to think that a show as popular as Bridgerton only has three seasons in four years, even though it already has source material and established relationships.

For Sex Education fans, the final season turned out to be a major disappointment, and now the Bridgerton fandom is left hoping that Shonda Rhimes' hit drama will be able to keep the viewers hooked and not tarnish the beloved story.
