James Cameron made a surprising revelation at the Dell Tech World conference.

The Terminator franchise has been going through tough times lately, with the only somewhat decent (or at least not totally awful) movie being Terminator Salvation, which came out almost 15 years ago, back in 2009.

Since then, it has been nothing but disappointment for fans of the series, as even Dark Fate, the story of which was written by the creator of the franchise himself, James Cameron, completely dashed their hopes.

It was known that Cameron was working on a new installment of the series, but only now was it officially confirmed at a Dell Tech World conference, along with a rather surprising side note that caused quite a stir among fans.

Apparently, according to Twitter user Ron Mercado, the director started writing the script for the next Terminator three months ago, but stopped for now because he wants to "see how AI shakes out" before continuing.

While there has been no further confirmation of this, given Cameron's tendency to take unique new approaches to his movies (like shooting many of the scenes underwater for his Avatar sequel), it's not too hard to believe that this is actually true.

Writing a script for a movie where an AI has destroyed humanity with the help of an AI sounds exactly like something Cameron would do.

However, this could also mean that the director just wants to study the topic more closely, as he previously mentioned that if he were to make a new movie, it would be more about AI than "robots going crazy."

Fans have mixed feelings about the sudden news, which is understandable considering their expectations for the franchise have been undermined time and time again.

They joke that the story might actually be better this time around, because judging by the scripts for the previous films, the machine intelligence might prove superior to that of the human writers.

However, they also point out that now is definitely the time to stop flogging a dead horse, as it is clear that The Terminator should have ended after the second (or at least third) movie.
