New Strike Puts Barbie And Oppenheimer In Trouble
In the wake of the WGA strike, actors may join their industry colleagues.
A little more than a month after the Writers Guild of America's 2023 strike went into effect, affecting countless movies and TV shows to the point that some had to be put on hold, a whole new strike is looming over Hollywood.
The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, or SAG-AFTRA, may follow in the footsteps of their industry colleagues and initiate their own strike if the current negotiations, which revolve around the use of AI, benefit plans and "self-taped auditions," don't meet their demands.
This could jeopardize not only current filming, but also upcoming films such as the highly anticipated Barbie and Oppenheimer.
In case of a strike, the majority of the actors would stop taking part in the films and refuse to promote the already completed ones, which will undoubtedly cause a lot of trouble for the companies.
The scheduled date for the negotiations to be successful is June 30th, otherwise the strike will take effect, which will most likely cause the studios to double down on their marketing campaigns to get the best out of them before the deadline.
Aside from the aforementioned Barbie and Oppenheimer, which will be released on July 21, 2023, many other films could be affected, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, scheduled for August 2, 2023.
The fans believe that all these strikes clearly show how much of a crisis Hollywood is in right now, with studios unwilling to adequately compensate some of the most important people in the film industry.
They add that although it would be a shame not to see the actors participating in various promotional events, such as interviews, which are sometimes quite entertaining, what is at stake is obviously more important than that.
We can only hope that the crisis affecting both writers and actors will be resolved as soon as possible, so that they can finally bring us their great works.
