New Sci-Fi Hit Series Dominating Apple TV’s Top Is a Must-See for Dark Fans
It also gives strong Everything Everywhere All at Once vibes.
Summary:
- New Apple TV ’s show has just premiered, taking the first place in its top, and it promises to become a new sci-fi hit.
- It follows a man who finds himself trapped in a parallel universe, unable to connect his family facing danger from his alternate version.
- This show continues the current trend for sci-fi titles.
The recent success of 3 Body Problem and the prominent domination of Prime Video ’s Fallout banger show proved people’s great interest in science fiction series. Thus, every streaming platform is trying to present its own takes on the genre, including Apple TV.
These days they’re releasing the show you definitely shouldn’t miss, as it has already taken the first place in the platform’s global chart. Moreover, its premise can remind you of our favorite sci-fi titles, like the Dark Netflix original series (2017 - 2020).
Its plot revolves around Jason, a physics professor, living his happy middle-class life with his wife and teenage son. However, after being beaten and abducted, he awakens in an alternate version of his life, where he hasn't got literally everything he had.
It’s not the very end of Jason’s problems: another version of him attempts to walk in OG Jason’s shoes, presenting a danger for his family. Thus, he starts doing his best to fight his own parallel self and to prevent the collapse of his previously perfect life.
The themes of parallel universes and time-traveling can already remind you of the Dark series, where they were the main plot’s engine. Its leading character, Jonas, also tried to prevent the disaster happening within his family on his journey to the past.
The series’ synopsis is also quite reminiscent of the plot of the 2022 hit movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once, where Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent the crash of the multiverse.
Titled Dark Matter (yes, again Dark), it certainly continues Apple TV’s successful sci-fi streak, with them releasing such genre’s hits as Invasion, Rebecca Ferguson’s Silo and the recently hyped Constellation, dubbed “just about perfect” by Stephen King.
It stars the acclaimed sci-fi actors Joel Edgerton, famous for playing Owen Lars in the Star Wars films Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005), and Jennifer Connelly, who starred in Dark City (1998) and The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008).
The first two episodes of Dark Matter premiered on May 8, with new episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays exclusively on Apple TV+.
