New Percy Jackson & the Olympians Cast Update is a Lightning Out of the Blue
At New York Comic Con, we got an early glance at the premiere Percy Jackson episode and learned about the star-studded cast of the upcoming TV show.
Things just keep looking up for Percy Jackson fans who can barely contain their eagerness to watch the new Disney Plus TV series. As the Percy Jackson show grows closer, we keep getting phenomenal updates about it — here’s a new one!
At New York Comic Con, the creators of the upcoming Percy Jackson & the Olympians TV show revealed the cast, shared seven minutes of the premiere episode, and even hosted Rick Riordan, the author of the original book series, and his wife Becky Riordan. Together, they presented some revelations about the series.
The seven-minute cut of the first Percy Jackson episode showed Percy getting revenge on his school bully; he, his mother, and his friends driving away from the Minotaur; and a five-minute sequence of Percy going through a fighting test at Camp Half-Blood.
The latter segment was announced by Rick Riordan himself after the author made an unexpected appearance at the panel — his presence was never confirmed. Riordan’s involvement in the show was largely credited which, too, came as a pleasant surprise for fans as the author was famously critical of the previous adaptation attempt.
Apart from that, the Percy Jackson & the Olympians creators revealed the entire cast of the show, and it’s quite star-studded when it comes to the adult actors. The list included Lin-Manual Miranda, Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas, Timothy Omundson, the late Lance Reddick, and many others. Gods being gods, and all.
The showrunners also shared their relief about finding the perfect younger cast for the show — the one that actually follows through with Riordan’s vision of his main characters. While the movie adaptation seriously aged the protagonists, the TV show went along with introducing properly young actors, and brilliant ones at that.
“The first time I saw Walker, there was a little voice in my head that said, ‘I think that’s the kid.’ And we got very lucky because we found it three times,” said showrunner Jonathan E. Steinberg, according to Deadline.
Overall, Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ panel at New York Comic Con has been nothing but a delight so far, and we can’t wait to watch the show itself. Can you?
