It just might be, because Fede Álvarez seems to be the right man for the job, considering his past accomplishments.

The Alien franchise has been in a rather poor state for far too long, as we haven't had a unanimously praised film in nearly four decades, not since the release of Aliens in 1986.

Not counting the Alien vs. Predator films, which are part of a completely different series, each new installment in the franchise has failed to live up to the glory of the first two films for one reason or another. So as the new Alien movie approaches, fans don't know what to expect.

An untitled new installment in the franchise has just finished filming, but will it be a redemption for the series? It just might be, as its director Fede Álvarez has already made a name for himself in the horror genre.

After all, he was responsible for 2013's Evil Dead, 2016's Don't Breathe, which relied heavily on extremely tense moments, just like the first Alien film, and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, which was also warmly received by critics and audiences.

And although very little is known about the story, except that it won't be connected to Ridley Scott 's prequels and that it will take place on a distant colony, Álvarez seems to be the right man for the job.

However, fans have lost all hope in the franchise and are very cautious with their expectations. They understandably say that with so little information and no trailers, it's hard to believe that things will be different this time around.

Others are disappointed that the story of the prequels has been dropped completely, as despite their flaws, they had some great elements, such as the crazy android David, played by Michael Fassbender.

Alien: Covenant ended on a huge cliffhanger and they are quite bummed that we will never see the rest of his story, which was one of the best parts of the prequels, along with some core ideas.

However, now that the filming is finished, the first trailer, more plot details, and the official title will most likely be revealed relatively soon.

The film is scheduled to be released on August 16, 2024.
