The best competition for The Boys out there.

While it may feel like audiences around the world are tired of the superhero genre and tend to skip all the new Marvel and DC premieres, there is still a lot of potential in the genre. It is now up to the writers and producers to find new approaches to the subject.

The Boys, Prime Video 's black satire of the genre, does this well. Pushing the clichés to the point of absurdity, it paints a picture of what the real world would actually be like with superheroes. The abuse of power, political intrigue, and never-ending violence are the biggest parts of it. Netflix 's new hit Supacell offers a different perspective.

Is Supacell on Netflix Worth Watching?

Created, written and directed by Rapman, Supacell is the story of ordinary Black people in modern day London who find themselves developing superpowers. What makes the show stand out from the rest is not only the strong representation, but the fact that all the characters react to their newfound powers in a way that a normal person would.

With some being afraid of what they can now do, and others feeling like they can use their powers to get ahead in life, Supacell redefines the genre by making it relatable to life around us.

There are no supervillains or superheroes in the show. Only people who struggle to make it from day to day and now have a special power to navigate.

The cast includes Hollyoaks' Tosin Cole and Calvin Demba, The Responder's Adelayo Adedayo, film and TV veteran Eddie Marsan and several newcomers brought into the spotlight by Netflix, Yasmin Monet Prince, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa and Josh Tedeku.

While many viewers weren't familiar with any of the actors on the list, audiences and critics alike pointed out brilliant performances across the board. Supacell now stands with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, praised for gripping plot twists and rich and logical character development throughout all 6 episodes.

So far, Netflix has not made any announcements about renewing the show for season 2. However, since it just premiered on June 27, there is still plenty of time for executives to make an announcement.
