Networks Sleep on a Perfect Friends Spinoff Opportunity
It would be a crime to not give Gellers the recognition they deserve.
It was only a matter of time before the idea for a Friends spin-off came up, but no one expected it to be this good.
With the recent boom of sequels, prequels, spinoffs, and remakes of what is now considered TV and movie classics, it's a wonder that Friends was left untouched.
However, fans would actually be happy to see how the story began for this particular family, if things were done right.
The Gellers spin-off, set in the early '80s, would be a great addition to the show the audience knows and loves, and could potentially explain a lot about the main characters' backgrounds.
It already has everything it needs to succeed, including a hugely loyal fan base of Friends and many storylines that have been mentioned but never really explored.
Ross and Monica's routines, Fat Monica's arc, the "I hate Rachel" club – the possibilities are endless.
Besides, it would be a crime to ignore Geller's family dynamic.
"The lead couple is perfect: the goofy dad who gives fake law advice to his father-in-law and the cold mother whose mom has a nice flat in the city and a kinky side," Redditor Ok-Low7136 said, later explaining how other fan-favorite characters, such as Rachel, Phoebe, and even Chandler could be introduced in later seasons.
Although the Friends fanbase seems to be a bit wary of possible spinoffs, especially after the failure of Joey in the mid-'00s, this idea has everyone on board.
It could be the nostalgic dream of bringing back the sitcom that is so cherished, it could be the real potential behind the 80s dysfunctional family show.
Either way, some networks may want to pick it up to create another hit. While there are no real talks of a Friends spinoff in production, you can always re-watch all 10 seasons of the original show.
Friends is available to stream on HBO Max or fuboTV.
