Netflix’s Most Mind-Bending Sci-Fi Hit Is Now Renewed, but There’s a Twist

Though people still compare the Netflix production to the C-drama original, which could spend more time on details considering it consisted of 36 episodes, the new iteration has received a lot of praise and ended up landing at the 79% mark on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season. Is 3 Body Problem Renewed for Season 2?

Created by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, who already had a proven track record of working with the toughest of original sources, 3 Body Problem was a massive success and managed to boost the popularity of an already acclaimed novel by Liu Cixin.

Although the masterminds behind the show were very straightforward about wanting to have three seasons of the show to fit all three books in the series, the future of the show remained undecided for a few months before the official announcement was made. 3 Body Problem will be back, but for now, no one really knows for how long.

In their joint statement, the showrunners of the series, David Benioff, Dan Weiss and Alexander Woo, mentioned that this part will bring the story to its conclusion, but were very vague about the number of episodes or seasons ordered by the streamer.

“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!” they said.

Netflix has a history of renewing its successful shows for multiple seasons, so if the creators have their way, 3 Body Problem will get two additional seasons to cover the second and third books. If not, it could pose a storytelling problem, as they will have to fit two books into the narrative.

Given the usual length of Netflix seasons, it will not be an easy task to accomplish without losing the quality of the writing.
