The movie’s overall success may make Paris suffer once again.

Netflix ’s horror story about a disaster happening right in the midst of the Olympic Games held by Paris keeps blowing everyone away on the streaming platform as the brand new shark movie Under Paris continues its triumph in Netflix’s global top 10 chart.

Released less than two weeks ago, the film was quick to demonstrate impressive results for a non-English language movie, garnering around 41 millions views within the first five days since the initial release on June 3. Now that Under Paris has very low chances to be dethroned by anyone else anytime soon, it’s also likely to receive a sequel in the near future.

Under Paris Sequel: Everything to Know

According to Variety, a second movie about French people’s biggest nightmare during the sports event of the year might soon be greenlit, though talks about it haven’t started yet.

Under Paris’ director Xavier Gens revealed that he’s so far not involved in a potential discussion, but “there’s a chance that we’ll be discussing it soon. If there is a sequel, it will take place in a Paris that is entirely submerged underwater.”

The horror movie is currently having Netflix’s audience glued to their screens due to its ironic take on the way the French capital is getting prepared to welcome literally the whole world this summer.

Starring Oscar nominee Bérénice Bejo, Under Paris follows brilliant marine researcher Sophia who gets dumbfounded by a message from an environment activist saying that the upcoming Olympic Games are under a huge risk as the Seine hides a giant blood-thirsty shark. Without hesitation, Sophia embarks on a search for the monster and makes other risky decisions like swimming in the Seine, a river that’s not a very good fit for such an activity.

Ironically, such a plot twist emerges amid Parisian mayor Anne Hidalgo’s announcement to turn the river into a decent swimming pool for athletes and visitors during the Games.

Under Paris is available for streaming on Netflix worldwide.
