Television adaptations of books have become increasingly popular in the recent decade, with many famous books being turned into hit TV shows, and Bridgerton is no exception.

While these adaptations can be a great way to introduce a wider audience to a book, they also have the potential to change the original story in significant ways, which many shows have been criticized for. However, this one creepy trend in the Bridgerton book series that fans have noticed has been changed for the better by the show creators.

Bridgerton is set in the high society of Regency Era England. The books follow the lives and relationships of the members of the Bridgerton family and their friends as they navigate the complexities of love and marriage in the society of the time. Netflix 's adaptation has been praised for being progressive – specifically for its diverse cast and more contemporary depiction of a range of relationships and characters.

However, those are not the only things the creators of the show have done differently. In fact, fans have found that there's a significant age gap between men and their wives in Quinn's books, and the showrunners have made some changes to that.

Now, it's no secret it was standard for wives to be much younger than their husbands in the Regency Era. Women usually made their society debut by the age of 18 and married by their early twenties. Marriage was often seen more as a business transaction that provided security to a woman rather than a love story. Men, on the other hand, were expected to delay marriage until they got an education and were in a position to fully support a family.

One Thing About Bridgerton's Penelope Book Fans Got Completely Wrong

However, despite it being typical back then, many people find this trend creepy nevertheless. So, fans were pleasantly surprised when they discovered that a change was made to Colin Bridgerton's age in the hit series. In the first book, Colin was originally meant to be 22 years old. In the show's season 2 finale, however, we found out he was aged down to 21 when Benedict suggested that Colin is old enough to explore investments at "one and 20."

And considering the fact that season 3 will be focusing on Colin and Penelope Featherington's love story, who was 17 in season 1, aging Colin down is a welcome step in the right direction, without a doubt.
