Netflix Earnings Prove The Sandman Was a Success, But The Show's Still in Limbo
A dream come true is slowly turning into a waiting nightmare for fans.
Having released its Q3 earnings report, Netflix appeared to nod to The Sandman and admit that the show was a success — however, there are still no hints at the possible renewal.
The quarter was kicked off by a new season of Stranger Things, and then followed by The Sandman, "which was loved by fans and critics alike", as the streaming platform itself noted in the report.
Fans Demand That Netflix Wake Up on The Sandman Renewal
The report noted that The Sandman had 351 million hours viewed, and was a part of a generally successful quarter. With those figures in mind, fans can't seem to understand just why the network remains mum about the renewal.
However, with Netflix making it clear to shareholders that The Sandman was successful, many people now believe that this is about stretched negotiations with Warner Bros. rather than Netflix's reluctance to greenlight a new season.
Redditor reasonedof said they "went through some of their old reports back to 2020 and no shows were cancelled after mentioning them in reports", although "Ratched S2 hasn't materialized but that was renewed pre-release probably has more to do with Ryan Murphy and talent being busy than Netflix".
Neil Gaiman Has Some Harsh Truth For Haters Calling The Sandman 'Woke'
Fans have been rallying online to get The Sandman renewed for season 2 ever since the first season was released on Netflix. At first, it was about waiting to see how the show does. When it did good, having spent six weeks in the global top 10 list, it was about assessing the numbers. Now that the numbers are seemingly assessed and proven to be good, fans are entering yet another stage of waiting.
According to the fandom, canceling the show now after Netflix admitted it was successful would "look really bad", so the hopes are up. Neil Gaiman has not commented on the Netflix quarterly report himself, but did share a tweet from a fan who expressed hope for The Sandman to get renewed. The author also liked several other tweets that highlighted Netflix's praise of the show.
All of this still does not mean that the show is getting renewed. So for now, fans can only keep bombarding the network with demands to greenlight The Sandman season 2, and never abandon their hope.
