The show’s next season may not be what fans have been expecting all along.

NCIS season 21 officially wrapped it all up around a month ago, leaving fans with two big mysteries that the show’s next installment is supposed to handle soon. The latest season proved that Jessica Knight’s big promotion isn’t only about her biggest dream coming true, but also about her personal struggles should she leave the MCRT, while Alden Parker’s vision after he gets injured during a mission seemingly unveiled some dark part of his backstory.

Although Jessica Knight has recently been the most popular choice for fans’ speculations regarding next season’s plot twists, NCIS’ lovers seem to desperately need to come up with another suggestion for Parker’s mystery now that the series’ showrunner dropped a hint about the fans’ big delusion.

Following the season 21 finale that forced many fans to take it to social media demanding more details about the upcoming installment, NCIS showrunner Steve D. Binder reflected on what the future may hold for both Jessica Knight and Alden Parker.

Talking about the latter, Binder seemingly disproved fans’ conjectures about who exactly appears in Parker’s vision on the boat. The NCIS fandom recently got an explosive activity while making suggestions who that little girl Parker calls Lily is and why she’s seen playing on the boat, a place Parker himself has always been scared of.

Many fans believed that Lily may be Parker’s little sister who most likely died on that boat, a fact which also may explain why the character has such a weird attitude towards those marine vehicles. Now that the theory became something commonly approved, its plausibility has seemingly just been shattered by Binder.

In one of his recent interviews, the showrunner stated that Parker’s mystery isn’t that easy to figure out as fans now think.

According to Binder, only the show’s writers have all the necessary information, but “the audience definitely doesn’t. No, there are some things [to be revealed] that will be more meaningful after the fact once you look back, some little things that are planned. But there is nothing that you’d be able to put together with what you’ve been shown so far.”

The showrunner’s words thus might indeed confirm that the theory about Lily being some kind of relative to Parker isn’t really true, but what’s clear here is that she was surely very important to him ever since they both were children, right to the point of the character’s reluctance to ever talk about his dislike for boats and what exactly happened to him in there.

The good news is that the mystery won’t take too long to get unveiled as NCIS season 22 will arrive at CBS already this fall.
