Hand of the King is a very sought-after position in the Game of Thrones / House of the Dragon world.

It is a job of trust, respect, and even admiration. There have been many Hands to the various monarchs over the years, and while fans often freely debate Kings and Queens in terms of leadership prowess and fitness to rule, there have been fewer discussions focusing on the various Hands.

Until now…

Reddit has put forward a fan theory that has led to the ultimate Hand being chosen, and it is not whom you may have guessed.

Tyrion Lannister felt like the most popular choice for a time, given his wit, wisdom, demonstrably excellent judgement, and good heart. But he is not the overall top contender. That honour instead goes to his uncle, Ser Kevan Lannister.

Fans have chosen Kevan above all other Hands for several reasons.

First is his strong, yet respectful nature. He had the ability to be even more intimidating than his brother, Tywin, yet also showed the capacity to demonstrate kindness toward his enemies.

These qualities are rare in Westeros, with most characters tending to fall too far on either side of the attitude spectrum.

Ser Kevan was one of the very few that stood against his niece, Cersei when she tried to seize power over the small council following Tommen being made King.

His wisdom guides his actions here and is not swayed by nepotism. When Cersei offers him the position of Master of War, he not only refuses it but also returns to his home in Casterly Rock, wanting nothing more to do with the situation.

What set Ser Kevan apart from most other Hands was his ability to see beyond his own agenda and remain wise and reliable.

He served Tommen loyally and nobly as Hand when he returned to King's landing following Cersei's arrest by the High Sparrow. He knew the importance of having a strong small council that was not merely full of sycophants that would blindly do one's bidding.

Sadly, Ser Kevan's only fault was underestimating his niece. And it was this failure to foresee the extent of her cruelty and viciousness that led to his death when she destroyed the Great Sept of Baelor with wildfire with him trapped inside.

Ser Kevan Lannister does not get enough credit for being another "good" Lannister.

He is candid, sensible, and fair-minded. And it is these qualities that made him the best hand of the King that the realm has seen so far.
