Move Over, Andor: Acolyte Has Just Become Star Wars' Most Exciting New Show
Yes, Andor is very dark and adult... moving on to the next one.
It seems that the Star Wars fandom has a new darling now: the upcoming show The Acolyte.
The official description sparks curiosity, with the series being touted as "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era."
The show will follow the journey of a former Padawan who "reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."
It would seem that the Star Wars universe is on track to "grow up", with the "mystery-thriller" part sounding like something potentially even darker than Andor.
But what is even more exciting about the show is its cast. It is an ensemble of actors from big hits such as Squid Game and Nine Perfect Strangers. For instance, Lee Jung-jae and Manny Jacinto from the aforementioned projects are confirmed to star.
Alongside them, there are Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials ), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix ).
"That cast is everything. I'm on a Star Wars high right now with Andor still playing – let's hope this one is cut from the same cloth," Twitter user MikaEn2305 said.
Some fans were particularly excited for Carrie-Anne Moss to sign up for a Star Wars project, praising her portfolio that includes some very high-profile gigs like The Matrix franchise, Marvel series and Mass Effect.
With the production only getting started, The Acolyte premiere date is yet to be scheduled. The show will be available for streaming on Disney Plus.
