Most Unnecessary Vampire Diaries Death That Fans Are Still Mad About
Just another moment to add to the list of Damon's crimes.
If there's one thing we all know for sure after so many years of watching The Vampire Diaries, it's that Damon Salvatore has been anything but the good guy.
With many fans suggesting they'd be happier if he and Elena ended up with a good therapist somewhere in the middle of the series, Damon gets his happy ending. However, no one forgets how many people were hurt and died in the process.
Perhaps the most heartbreaking death of all was the one everyone was least expecting.
Damon was always unhinged, but even the most loyal The Vampire Diaries viewers didn't think he would go so far as to kill Lexi Branson, who was there for him when no one else was.
Lexi Branson, another vampire, was the one who took care of Stefan when Damon left town without him. She helped the younger brother learn to control his power while the older brother continued to live recklessly.
It should have been a lesson to Lexi, but she refused to accept Damon's selfish ways and helped him again in the 70s to become human again.
All she got in return was cruelty.
Damon stabbing Lexi in the chest as part of a plan to keep the Founder's Council from finding out that he and Stefan are vampires was considered one of the most unnecessary and painful scenes in the entire series.
The only thing Lexi is able to ask before she dies is "Why?" and even then Damon is incapable of showing any compassion. To this day, fans believe it was the worst thing Damon did in the entire series, which says a lot.
To break so many layers of trust and genuine caring, to betray the person who did so much to save you and your brother, and to do it on your brother's birthday, takes a lot, and Damon certainly had it all.
If you want to relive the heartbreak of that moment, you can stream The Vampire Diaries on Netflix, MAX, Peacock TV, or Amazon Prime Video.
