Star Wars is known for its sentient droids, a striking contrast to the usual cold machines in other media, and we picked five of the most beloved.
Star Wars established long ago that its own take on robots, or more accurately, droids, is much, much more than the soulless machines that appear in every other futuristic fictional setting.
Over the years, fans have been introduced to countless unique droids, each one endearing in its own way, making it difficult to choose just five.
So we will only cover those that have appeared in movies or TV shows (sorry HK-47 and BD-1, you are forever in our hearts) and are absolutely adored by fans.
5. L3-37
Appearing in Solo: A Star Wars Story, this female programmed droid is one of the most unique ever seen on screen and many fans found her absolutely hilarious.
If young Lando is going to make another appearance on the big screen, the creators better make sure L3-37 is there, or fans will rebel.
And yes, she's also... "modified," if you know what we mean.
4. K-2SO
Thanks to Alan Tudyk's brilliant performance, this reprogrammed Imperial Droid instantly became one of the most beloved characters in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
His iconic lines are repeated by fans to this day, and they eagerly await his appearance in Andor season 2, which has already been confirmed.
3. B2EMO
This small but loyal companion of Marva won the hearts of everyone who watched the Andor TV series.
Hearing him say "I want M-M-Maarva" in that one particular episode brought some fans to tears, and he has earned so much love that they (along with most of Ferrix) are willing to fight for him.
2. Chopper
Fans of the Star Wars Rebels animated series call this astromech "their favorite little terrorist."
And indeed, C1-10P, or Chopper, has a surprisingly high kill count throughout the series, which is a surprising contrast to his harmless appearance.
1. R2-D2 and C-3PO
Our top pick is a two-for-one special, and although it is an obvious one, it would be a crime not to acknowledge their importance to the entire franchise.
Appearing in countless Star Wars films, these two were also the first named characters that audiences saw when A New Hope was released in 1977.
It is no surprise, then, that they have become the most recognizable and beloved droids not only in Star Wars, but perhaps in all of cinematic history.
