Sandman Scene Too Good to Stay Deleted: Finally Released to the Public
If you didn't have the chance to go to Brazil's CCXP 2022 and be the first to see that scene... good news for you.
Netflix and Neil Gaiman blessed The Sandman fans with a truly amazing Christmas gift that they have been waiting for since the beginning of December. Yes, that legendary deleted scene with Dream and Death has finally been released for everyone to watch — not just those who were lucky enough to visit Sao Paolo on December 1-4 for the CCXP convention.
Neil Gaiman had his own message for fans as Netflix released the long-anticipated scene.
"In the spirit of the holidays, we have a gift for the best fans in the world: more Death & Dream. This deleted scene from The Sandman episode "The Sound of Her Wings" gives us a little more insight into why Death is the way she is. We hope you enjoy it," he tweeted.
As Death reveals to Dream just why she is the way she is: kind, compassionate, and empathetic, she shares her own experience of mortality when she spent one day as a living person, not an Endless. Why? Well, because she didn't want to be a "cold, stuck-up b**ch", apparently.
Kirby Howell-Baptiste's Death was praised by fans as one of the most lovable characters in the entire series, even though we only had one proper episode with her in the center of the narrative. The deleted scene with her breaking down her experience as a mortal to Morpheus was first shown to fans at CCXP in early December, with fans bombarding Gaiman with requests to release it for everyone.
Back at the time, the author said that it was up to Netflix to release the deleted scene. Well, looks like Christmas was the most perfect time to do it.
The Sandman has been greenlit for season 2, with Gaiman revealing earlier that the script for the second chapter was ready. However, the shooting has not started yet, and the premiere date remains unclear.
