Monica's Tragedy Completely Undermined by a Stupid Plot Hole in Yellowstone Season 5
Sometimes you're better off hiring a driver, maybe?
Yellowstone 's Season 5 premiere episode, titled One Hundred Years Is Nothing, has already gone off to a bad start for Monica.
Near the end of the first hour, heavily pregnant Monica starts to feel the contractions. However, as Kayce is struggling to deal with a ranch-related problem, she decides to drive herself to the hospital with her son Tate alongside her — an idea that would soon prove itself to be a bad one.
As Monica struggles to drive on a dark and deserted road, she is overwhelmed by waves of pain. Despite that, she never pauses and continues to drive. It results in her swerving out of her lane, and there's a pickup truck approaching from the other side with its driver too busy with his snack to pay attention to the road. Unfortunately, the road also has a nasty surprise: a wild buffalo that steps out of the dark.
Yellowstone is a Misguided Lesson About What It Means to be a Strong Woman
Monica crashes into the animal, and so does the truck. She survives, but it is soon revealed that she's lost the baby. It's tragic enough, but fans could not quite comprehend the tragedy because of some rather stupid-looking inconsistencies.
"I don't understand how Monica got thrown from the car. If she had a seatbelt on she would be next to Tate. If she didn't she would have been thrown through the windshield and launched into a lawn at 60 mph making her paste," Reddditor IrishEv suggested.
According to fans, literally anyone would have slowed down if they were in Monica's shoes: after all, she was going through terrible contractions but still "driving like a maniac".
Another fan suggested an even more reasonable way to avoid the tragedy.
"If Monica was having contractions why didn't she leave for hospital earlier? Surely she knew Kayce was working on a major op. Why did she wait for his call to then suddenly decide to get in the car? It makes no sense," Redditor Blueleathersofa said.
This also makes sense for someone living in the middle of nowhere: as fans put it, "you'd think you would have a plan," especially since it was Monica's second pregnancy.
Yellowstone season 5 premiered on November 13, set to consist of 14 episodes and developed by Paramount Network.
