All the true crime fans out there are still devastated by the loss.

The first two seasons of Mindhunter premiered in 2017 and 2019. The show has been warmly received by audiences and critics. The creators wanted to make a sequel, but Netflix canceled the show after season 2. David Fincher, the director of the series, said that the show was very expensive and the ratings did not justify the investment.

Fincher is the most daring Hollywood director today, who fearlessly explores the darkest sides of his characters' subconscious and deliberately pushing the characters in his films into situations where they are forced to show their worst traits, and that's why audiences love him.

And that is why viewers fell in love with his Mindhunter, where the first profilers in history took apart the personalities of the most horrific maniacs, piece by piece, trying to understand their motivations.

For true fans of the history of forensic science, and even for ordinary fans who like to tickle their nerves with bloody tales of real crimes, the plot of Mindhunter came as no surprise. The book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, on which the show is based, is a well-known and authoritative study.

Douglas, one of the authors, has actually met with all the major maniacs in person. He tells about the origins of the techniques and methods of searching for criminals that are used today.

Those who have read the book know that the first two seasons of Mindhunter showed only a small part of the events described and were far from the most exciting. Moreover, considering that it's often the third season that finally picks up the pace and shows viewers the best, it's safe to say that Netflix has robbed fans of the best season of Mindhunter.

In addition, one of the most famous serial killers, BTK, appeared in the second season, and everything indicated that he could become the main antagonist of the third season.

BTK, or Dennis Rader, was unique and one of the most terrifying maniacs – he killed for decades while deceiving everyone, hiding his diabolical nature so well that no one ever suspected him of a series of murders.

The third season of Mindhunter could finally fully reveal the main characters in their pursuit of one of US' most intimidating murderers, but we'll never see it happen.
