Megan Fox's Feud With Michael Bay Was The Last Nail in Transformers' Coffin
What once seemed like a revolutionary cinematic attraction quickly descended into misery — not least due to the departure of one particular character.
The Transformers movies have had their ups and downs, with ups being the first parts of the story that are iconic and beloved, and downs being... well, pretty much the rest.
Megan Fox was definitely one of Transformers' staples. Her character Mikaela probably comes to mind even faster than Sam Witwicky when somebody even mentions Transformers. However, the first two movies were anything but sunshine and rainbows for Megan Fox and director Michael Bay when it came to the actual shooting process.
The two had repeatedly locked horns, but it all finally transformed (he-he) into a catastrophe when Fox compared her director to Hitler in a 2009 interview.
"He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he's a nightmare to work for," the actress told Wonderland back at the time.
Naturally, it wasn't something Bay could let slide, and Fox never returned for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The actress claims it was her own decision to leave, but some reports indicated that the move was made by Bay and the studio.
The fallout of the feud damaged both the career of Fox and the fate of the Transformers franchise. Pretty much all the other Transformers movies were accused of milking the franchise, and Fox herself stopped appearing in bigger movies because of Bay's criticism of her work ethics and attitude.
Later, Fox even admitted that she wasn't necessarily in the right, and realized that an apology would have probably kept her spot in the Transformers universe.
No Transformers movie managed to repeat the success of the first ones, with its 2009 installment, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, still crowned as the highest-grossing movie of the franchise.
