Matthew Gray Gubler Won’t Be Back to Criminal Minds: Where Is He Now?
There is a lot more to be excited about ahead.
American actor Matthew Gray Gubler, best known for his role as criminal profiler Dr. Spencer Reid on the CBS procedural Criminal Minds, was one of the show's fan favorites, so his departure from the series has broken many hearts.
No matter how many times Criminal Minds nods to Reid, and no matter how much viewers want to see him back, that won't be the case for now. As showrunner Erica Messer confirmed, there are no plans for Reid's cameo, so you will have to look to other projects Matthew Gray Gubler is involved in to see him back on screen.
Matthew Gray Gubler After Criminal Minds
Fortunately for fans of Gubler's acting talents, who long to see more of the actor, he hasn't shied away from the cameras since leaving Criminal Minds. In fact, in a course of 4 years, he has appeared in both feature films and television series.
In 2020, Matthew Gray Gubler starred as Darren Colt, the lead character's love interest in the psychological drama Horse Girl, and in 2021, he appeared in the comedy King Knight as Thorn. When it comes to television, he starred in Hulu 's comedy Dollface as Wes, appearing in 7 episodes.
However, acting is just one of many talents that Matthew Gray Gubler has acquired, and after leaving Criminal Minds and having much more free time to devote to other pursuits, he has been busy writing his second book.
After the success of the first book, Rumple Buttercup: A Story of Bananas, Belonging and Being Yourself, which was classified as a children's book but was intended for all ages, the author began work on a second book. Published in 2023, The Little Kid with the Big Green Hand reached #1 in its category on the New York Times bestseller list.
Given the success of the second book, many believe that Gray Gubler will return to writing. However, at the moment there is no news about the upcoming projects, so the fans of the actor will have to wait and see what comes next in his creative journey. Maybe one day the odds will be in their favor and Criminal Minds will see Dr. Reid on the case again.
