Master of the House: What Is It About & Is It Even Worth Watching?
Attention Succession fans: you got work.
It’s already been one year since HBO’s Succession concluded, and it seems that we all miss dramas about dysfunctional families and the shocking intrigues that lie behind the seemingly happy picture.
However, Netflix ’s new series is going to fill the Succession-shaped hole in our hearts, as it explores the same themes and even makes it in a much more mysterious way.
Titled Master of the House, this Thai show follows the family of a reclusive tycoon who owns the diamond merchant Theva Gems and has an estimated net worth of $200 million.
The most interesting part begins when he dies all of a sudden, leaving his two sons as the presumed owners of the estate. However, they are about to realize they’re not the only heirs, as their deceased father has recently married his young housemaid.
Why Do You Need to Watch Master of the House?
The show blends not only drama, but also thriller elements, as the newly-widowed protagonist doubts that the death of her husband was really accidental and starts her own investigation of it.
At the same time, the show depicts a great number of intricacies related to the battle for the inheritance and the amount of evil deeds the relentless sons are capable of while striving to get a bigger piece of cake.
Succession fans have already guessed that it’s really reminiscent of the final season of their favorite dramedy hit. Master of the House can be considered an Asian take on the tricky stories about wealthy, yet dishonest family members who become rivals when the tragedy comes.
“The core theme of this series revolves around our ability to manage power and greed, and whether our pursuits might inadvertently harm others. If left unchecked, it can wreck relationships, families, societies, or even entire nations,” explains the show’s director Sivaroj Kongsakul.
Even though there are no familiar actors who ride the hype train now, you can still be fully immersed into the story of Theva Gems’ heirs layered with a murder mystery (and let’s be honest - we all love them).
This binge-worthy series is already out on Netflix, and you shouldn’t miss it at all.
