Marvel Stars Against Hollywood: Do Chris Evans and Tom Holland Really Hate Their Industry?
The movie industry is a harsh place, and actors speak out against its rules from time to time — but some of the MCU stars took their frustration one step further.
This might sound weird for most people with more grounded jobs, but Hollywood is not exactly a nice place to be most of the time. It’s a jungle that lives by its own rules, and many actors still can’t feel at home there even after spending many years in the industry. It’s not for everyone, and it’s quite mentally taxing on its inhabitants.
With the MCU projects being arguably the most dominant part of Hollywood right now, starring in Marvel movies is almost a guaranteed way to the top of the food chain. Actors who booked roles in the MCU films saw many doors open before them, but just like with everything else, there are two sides to every story — and being part of Marvel is just as hard as being part of Hollywood at large.
“You always end up questioning, ‘Is this what I should be doing?’ I just wasn’t sure if I was moving closer to myself or further away. And something inside me kept saying that I was getting further away — that something about this industry wasn’t healthy,” Chris Evans, the actor behind Captain America, shared in his recent interview with GQ.
Evans is not the only Avenger who doesn’t feel comfortable being part of Hollywood. Tom Holland, the latest Spider-Man actor, claimed he was always trying to distance himself from the movie industry on the Jay Shetty Podcast.
“I really do not like Hollywood, it is not for me. [This] business really scares me. I understand that I’m a part of that business, and I enjoy my kind of interactions with it. But that said, I am always looking for ways to kind of remove myself from it, to kind of just live as normal a life as possible,” Holland explained.
While Holland and Evans were the latest MCU actors who shared their thoughts so bluntly, many other performers share their sentiments toward Hollywood at large. It seems like in the movie industry, no one but the producers is having genuine fun beyond the set, and Hollywood takes as much from people as it gives them.
