Margot Robbie Shocked James Gunn with Insane On-Set Stunt: 'She's Like a Swiss Army Knife'
James Gunn is not an easy man to impress, but Margot Robbie managed to do it… By performing a stunt everyone was sure the actress would need a stunt double for.
While the plot of James Gunn 's The Suicide Squad is not the proudest part of the movie, many aspects of it are all too great to forget the film altogether.
The Suicide Squad had great soundtracks, amazing visuals, and — most importantly — a terrific cast. Forget the plot, and it's a great movie…
Too bad that plot is the core of any film.
Still, it's thanks to the "aesthetic" of The Suicide Squad that the movie is still remembered to this day and even has a solid fan base.
But let's be real, at the very heart of anyone's love for The Suicide Squad is she: Harley Quinn, known in her everyday life as Margot Robbie. If anything, it was her character that saved the film.
Now, the reasons why Robbie's Harley Quinn became so popular so fast are aplenty.
The visual appearance, the controlled insanity, the acting, the "stranger danger" vibes, the iconic accessories, and many other things added up to the new Harley's success… But first of all, it was Margot Robbie's feat that she nailed perfectly.
But few people know that Robbie did more than just act on the set. In fact, the thing that impressed James Gunn, the movie's director, most of all, had nothing to do with acting: it was Margot pulling off a stunt she wasn't expected to do on her own.
In the scene where Harley frees herself while being hung up by handcuffs over her head, there's no stunt double: the actress did it on her own despite the very possible risks of severe injuries…
Typical for any situation where you flip backward while being handcuffed above your head and try to unlock your ties. Not that it's typical in general.
"[Margot] is like a human Swiss army knife, and watching this scene with her flipping backward was just beyond incredible. I was so happy that it worked and I was mesmerized by it," shared James Gunn later.
Turns out, there was at least one person in the movie who left everyone in awe, and it was Margot Robbie.
With the audience loving her performance and the director stunned by her stunt abilities, Robbie is most definitely not listed among the people who could be blamed for The Suicide Squad's flaws.
