The appearance of a famous actress in what is perhaps the most confusing of all Wes Anderson movies came as a surprise to the viewers.

Wes Anderson is one of those directors who likes to work with the same actors over and over again. Each of his new movies is easily recognizable by its established cast.

The "family" includes Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Owen and Luke Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, and many others.

In the new movie Asteroid City, there is an outstanding actress, Margot Robbie, with whom the director had never worked before. Her role was brief, but important to the plot. And her appearance was kept a secret.

The movie is divided into several levels, but everything is built around the play – in 1955, young astronomers come to Asteroid City for a scientific conference.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the authorities declare a quarantine and the conference is delayed. Adults and children try to figure out what's going on.

At first, Margot appears only in photograph – as the protagonist's dead wife. But then we also see her as an actress playing the protagonist's wife in the play, which reminds the main character Augie of a scene they rehearsed that was cut.

Near the finale, Augie leaves the scene, forgetting his character's motivation. However, he immediately meets the Margot's character, who works in a nearby theater.

She reminds him of the scene where his dead wife encouraged him to fall in love again.

Thus, Robbie's actress reminds the main character of the importance of his role and his motivation, and he returns to the stage and decides to visit the woman he recently met, Midge.

It's possible that Wes Anderson learned from Tarantino's bitter experience – when it was announced that Margot would play Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, many fans expected her to play a significant role in the movie, but it turned out to be very short, which disappointed many viewers.

Thus, Margot Robbie's name did not appear in the marketing campaigns and advertisements, which allowed the viewers not to hope in vain and also made Robbie's appearance in the movie a pleasant surprise.
