Manhunt Mode: Marvel Up in (Legal) Arms Against Fan-Run Subreddit
The battle against the studio's own fans is far from epic.
After the huge failure that was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in theaters, Marvel Studios has started to seek justice for the film in the most unexpected way.
Recently, it has been claimed that the studio has started to take legal action against those responsible for leaking the dialog from Quantumania to the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit.
The said dialogue consisted of 63 pages and gave away spoilers for the entire movie, which is believed to be the factor that affected the overall gross.
As of today, it is known that Marvel Studious sent two requests of a similar nature to both Reddit and Google, asking for information on those who might be responsible for the leak.
Despite standing its ground on its strict privacy policy, Reddit decided not to comment on whether or not they're complying with the request.
While the legal process has just begun and will likely take some time to unfold, fans of Reddit are already worried about the consequences for their favorite subreddit and its mods.
In a statement reposted by one of the mods, they state that the subreddit will likely be removed soon, and if it isn't – they're ready to give it up to whoever is willing to take it over. With all the content, subscribers, and potential legal ramifications.
"Why should the mods be responsible? They didn't sign NDAs?" wondered Reddit user ZellNorth, who found many supporters.
As sad as it seems, even if the mods are not directly responsible for the leak, they are backing down to avoid legal trouble.
Marvel Studios is probably looking for them, hoping to get a lead on those leaking the content from within the company, but not everyone seems to be impressed with their actions.
In fact, many fans feel just the opposite. The search for the leaker could have easily been an internal investigation, not a hunt against everyone who enjoys a movie spoiler here and there.
