Summary:

- Mamma Mia’s latest sequel was released back in 2018 and contained a major plot twist that the next movie needs to improve in a right way.
My, my, nobody could resist it, and seems like Mamma Mia is getting back to the cinema screens once again. Six years after the first movie’s sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again hit the theaters, the franchise gets an exciting update as Meryl Streep confirms that the third film is supposedly already in the works.
The actress also revealed that she’s expected to be back in the next installment, though, despite the raving reaction that the announcement will get soon, this news in particular can cause some sort of controversy that the creators have to deal with.
During her visit to the Cannes Film Festival where she received an Honorary Palme D’Or at the opening ceremony, Streep spilled the tea in one of her interviews saying that she has a conversation with Mamma Mia’s creators on her to-do list concerning the actress’ possible return to her iconic role of Sophie’s mother Donna.
Will Mamma Mia Get Another Sequel?
According to Streep, “they have an idea” about the way they could bring the character back as the latest movie released back in 2018 proved that Donna had died a year before from where the film had picked up the storyline.
The actress then clarified that so far she has no clue about what this idea will turn out to be, but she’s “going to hear about it pretty soon”, with her manager adding that they feel “optimistic about it”.
When asked whether she would like to revive the franchise (and probably her character too), Streep said she wants to go on with it as she feels like “folks love it”.
Mamma Mia’s sequel gave quite a short screen time to Meryl Streep as the actress happened to appear only in the movie’s flashbacks.
The actress previously admitted that she’d been a bit depressed about her limited time on the production set, though she had still managed to have some fun with her co-stars Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper.
