Fans feared that the character might be recast in future installments, but now they seem to have a definitive answer.

Ever since Harrison Ford announced that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would be the last time he portrayed one of his most iconic characters, fans have been concerned about the future of the saga.

It is highly unlikely that Lucasfilm would simply end such a famous and profitable franchise, and with Ford stepping down from the role, they were worried about what it meant for future Indiana Jones projects.

Would the studio simply reboot the franchise and recast the main character, as has happened with many iconic films before?

Now it seems they have their long-awaited answer. Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, broke the silence while speaking on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast.

She said that if they were to continue the franchise, it would most likely be in the form of a TV series, but they are "not doing anything to replace Indiana Jones," as Ford is simply too essential and unique for the role.

While fans are relieved to hear this, a few questions remain unanswered. The main one is whether this means that there will be no reboot of the TV series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, which is considered by many fans to be the most logical way to continue the franchise.

Two different actors have played him in this series, Corey Carrier and Sean Patrick Flanery, so does this statement necessarily apply to his younger versions?

They also say that if the creators decide to focus on other characters within the franchise, they don't have much of a choice. The most obvious one seems to be Short Round, portrayed by Ke Huy Quan.

The actor recently made a triumphant return to Hollywood and given his immense talent, fans are more than eager to see him reprise his role and present a take on an adult version of his character.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released on June 30, 2023.
