These hobbits are unexpectedly brave.

Dominic Monaghan is famous among the Middle-earth fans as the actor behind the role of Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck in the Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.

It looks like even after all these years, Monaghan is all team Lord of the Rings when it comes to the Middle-earth universe being compared with other popular franchises such as Harry Potter.

In a conversation with fans via his Instagram stories, Monaghan quickly sided with Middle-earth when fans asked him who would win in a fight — Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings or Dumbledore from Harry Potter.

And the actor did not hold back.

"The whole Potter world only exists due to the LoTR universe," Monaghan said. "I think Gandalf allows Dumbledore to polish his stuff. Maybe."

According to Monaghan, Gandalf's portfolio includes killing a balrog, forming the Fellowship of the Ring, and fighting in battle, while "Dumbledore was killed by a school teacher".

"He's a poor carbon copy of Gandalf. Gandalf blazed the trail. DD strolled down it," the actor finalized.

While social media users clashed in Twitter over how right was Monaghan with his estimations, others tried to look into the issue from the logical point of view.

"Depends on the method. If Dumbledore can't use the instant death spell, then Gandalf hands-down. With instakill, it's Dumbledore. Eru only returned Gandalf cuz Sauron wasn't defeated yet. So Gandalf has no respawn. Dumbledore could potentially have horcruxes and infinite respawns," Twitter user carterhugo34 analyzed.

Many people, if not directly agreeing with Monaghan, praised him for being audacious enough to even weigh in the battle between the two fandoms.

Still, one needs to keep in mind that the showdown between the word's two arguably most popular wizards is quite impossible as of now — unless someone will embark on a multiversal quest to combine the two universes.
