Looks Like Wednesday Success Truly Resurrected Addams Family Franchise
Expect more of the eerie family on your screens now that Netflix brought Wednesday back.
After the massive success of Netflix 's new Wednesday series, it was obvious that the show would be renewed for a second season, which was confirmed in January 2023.
The story revolves around the titular Wednesday Addams, who is sent by her parents to study at Nevermore Academy – an educational institution for various types of mystical creatures, including werewolves, vampires, sirens, and more. Given the unusual nature of the Addams family and Wednesday's psychic abilities, the place seems appropriate for an outcast like her.
The characters were created by Charles Addams (hence the name), an American cartoonist in the 1940s.
They later gained widespread popularity, appearing in several television series, animated cartoons (first as a cameo in The New Scooby-Doo Movies in 1972), and three live-action feature films.
After that, however, there was no sign of the fan-favorite family throughout the 2000s and until 2019, when a computer-animated movie was released, followed by a sequel in 2021.
So, after more than two decades of waiting, fans finally got another live-action adaptation, which turned out to be great, much to their delight. But if the comments sections on the Internet are any indication, they are clearly hungry for more, which opens up possibilities for expanding the world of the fresh live-action adaptation.
First, the creators could show us the time Morticia and Gomez Addams (Wednesday's parents) spent in Nevermore during their youth. Viewers got a glimpse of this through several flashbacks in Wednesday. Plus, this time period would be perfect for the return of fan-favorite character Larissa Weems, whose appearance in Wednesday's second season has yet to be confirmed.
The close second option for a spin-off would be to expand the stories of the Nevermore students. Over the course of the first few seasons, viewers were introduced to a colorful cast of characters, including Enid Sinclair, a young werewolf struggling with her transformation; Bianca Barclay, a siren estranged from her mother; and Eugene Ottinger, a nerdy psychic with the power to control bees.
Whatever path the creators choose to take, there is great potential for further exploration of the show's fantastical world and characters. The release date for the second season of Wednesday has yet to be announced.
