The crossover we never knew we needed...

General Hospital holds the Guinness World Record as the longest-running American soap opera in production for a reason, and it has introduced countless storylines during its mind-blowing 50+ season run.

But recently, the show's creators apparently decided to up their game and introduce the main antagonist's plan, which immediately reminded fans of a famous Marvel villain.

It was revealed that Dr. Victor Cassadine, the current main villain of the long-running series, intends to bring a new era for humanity as he believes that the massive population of the planet will soon lead to the depletion of natural resources.

To avoid this outcome, he will reduce the population to a more manageable number by unleashing a deadly pathogen stored in a bunker, allowing the survivors to prosper and rebuild civilization.

His entire plan bears a striking resemblance to the intentions of the mad Titan Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who used the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of the universe's inhabitants in order to avoid a resource crisis.

So basically, their reasons are exactly the same.

Fans of the series were pretty disappointed with this big reveal that had been building for two years.

Moreover, the whole idea of wiping out half the population was already criticized in 2018, when Avengers: Infinity War was released.

Even from the logical point of view: the planet will inevitably repopulate, so it would only buy some time before the same problem strikes again.

The only way to prevent that is to develop alternative solutions, or simply make humans unable to reproduce. If his pathogen had not killed, but sterilized the majority of people, it would have been a completely different story.

The writers clearly did not think this through well enough and took the twist straight from the superhero movie.

It is obvious that Victor's time is coming to an end, but at least they could have come up with something more original, according to fans who least expected their favorite show to get a touch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Episode 152 of season 60 is scheduled to air on April 20, 2023.
