Lionsgate Has to Be Extremely Careful With Twilight's Creepiest Storyline
How far can a relationship go in terms of cringe?
After premiering in 2008, Twilight became an instant hit. With most of the fans being teenage girls, it was no wonder that the romantic part of the plot would be the one that would get the most attention.
Of course we mean the main couple of the movie. All the fans around the world became obsessed with Edward and Bella's relationship.
Every twist and turn their story took was received with great enthusiasm.
But even here the fandom was divided into two groups. The one was rooting for Edward the vampire, and the other – for Jacob the werewolf.
The rivalry between them was actually cruel and filled the internet with lots of comments on that matter.
However, as we all know, in the end things turned out best for those who believed in the happy ending of Edward and Bella. And Jacob... well, his story became much more complicated.
It was explained in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn that there is one thing in every werewolf's life that actually determines their romantic (but not necessarily) future.
They get imprinted with someone, and that person is considered their soulmate.
In Stefany Meyer's books it was stated that this process and the result of it is something beyond the wolf or the other person.
So they can't choose and they can't tear up that connection.
And that was the thing that made fans of The Twilight Saga cringe when Jacob was imprinted on Renesmee, Edward and Bella's daughter.
Some fans find it creepy that a grown man would imprint with a newborn. And the fact that Nessie seems to have no choice in the matter only makes it worse.
"I like the idea of Nessie being the first imprint to go against what is chosen for her. I want her to grow up and make friends around the world. Experience life outside of Jacob. Fall in love with a human boy.
Marry him. [Have] kids. [Have a] job and be an example for other imprints that you can choose what you want if you are strong enough to resist slave supernatural bonding," Redditor BeautifulSense1831 said.
The rest of the fans totally agreed with this thought. Although there were some people who were not against the relationship as long as it wasn't romantic, but maybe just platonic.
And now that we have a reboot coming soon, all we have to say is: take a hint, Lionsgate.
