The Barbenheimer memes have been all over the Internet lately, and even if you hate them, the event itself is set to go as the actors stand with the Barbenheimer gang.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan ’s Oppenheimer will hit the theaters on the same day — July 21, 2023. This was initially thanks to Warner Bros.’s desire to send an F-you gift to Nolan who dropped them for Universal Pictures by undermining his new movie’s performance but quickly turned into a cultural phenomenon of sorts.

Sure, Barbie is set to beat Oppenheimer at the box office. This is dictated by both the projections and common sense and seems inevitable as Gerwig’s bright-pink positive adventure comedy about living dolls will attract more people from the general audience than Nolan’s grim and serious biographical drama. But…

Many people decided they didn’t want to pick sides in this war and wanted to enjoy both movies properly and thoroughly, so they came up with the concept of Barbenheimer — the ultimate movie mash-up. The Barbenheimer memes took over the Internet really quickly, and July 2023 was declared “Barbenheimer month.”

The funny movement of the double-feature fans was surprisingly supported by the stars of this summer’s competing movies. It started with Tom Cruise who seemed to get over the fact that his Mission: Impossible 7 would get painfully undercut by Oppenheimer.

“I love a double feature, and it doesn't get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Oppenheimer and Barbie,” the actor wrote on his Twitter.

The official accounts of Barbie, Oppenheimer, M:I7, and even Indiana Jones 5 all jumped down in the comment section to chat and meme with each other but this was not the end: the lead star of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, Cillian Murphy, also supported the idea of the double feature and cheered up his pink competitors.

“I adore Margot Robbie, I love Ryan Gosling, I want to see them now! My advice would be for people to go see both on the same day. If they are good movies, that’s what wins in the cinema,” Murphy said in his recent interview with La Vanguardia.

So whether you like it or not, Barbenheimer is upon us and it’s very much happening. You might even meet Cruise or Murphy in your local cinema on July 21, who knows!
